Gitanas Nausėda stressed that Lithuania appreciated Canada’s contribution to enhancing the security of the Baltic region and the country’s principled stance towards Russia’s war in Ukraine. Canada’s consistent political and military support for Ukraine was essential to achieving victory against the aggressor, President Gitanas Nausėda pointed out.
“The only way to end this war that Russia has started is for Ukraine to win. To achieve this, military support from the West needs to be increased, including heavy weapons. We must realize that the security and future of the entire Euro-Atlantic area is being decided in Ukraine,” the President underlined.
Gitanas Nausėda stressed the need for allies to continue to cooperate in increasing the pressure on Russia through sanctions. The President and the Speaker of the Canadian Senate also discussed preparations for the NATO Summit to be held in Vilnius next July.
