The President underscored Lithuania's strong support for Ukraine. According to Gitanas Nausėda, Russia's escalating actions - the announcement of mobilization, massive and indiscriminate missile attacks on Ukrainian cities, and threats to use nuclear weapons – demonstrate Putin’s desperation over failures on the battlefield.
“Ukraine's success in regaining territories seized by Russia testifies to Ukrainian heroism and unbreakable will. I believe that with swift and appropriate assistance from the West you will succeed in pushing the aggressor out of your territories. Supplying air defense systems to Ukraine is a prerequisite for the protection of civilians and for achieving victory. This is our shared fight for peace and freedom, and Lithuania will support Ukraine until victory,” the President said.
Gitanas Nausėda underlined that swift Western military support to Ukraine was of utmost importance and that Lithuania would continue to speak out for increasing it and for expanding economic and financial aid to Ukraine in all international formats.
The Lithuanian and Ukrainian leaders discussed the involvement of Belarus in Russia’s war on Ukraine. The President pointed out that Belarus should be treated as a full-fledged ally of Russia in its aggression against Ukraine. According to Gitanas Nausėda, the sanctions imposed by the West must be tightened on both Russia and Belarus, eliminating any possible circumvention.
