In their joint statement, EU leaders condemn Russia’s illegal annexation of the Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions. The statement says that these actions by Russia violate the rules-based international order and international law and threaten global security.
European leaders emphasize that they will never recognize the illegal annexation of Ukrainian territories and that Russia’s actions have no legal validity.
"Crimea, Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson are Ukraine. We call on all countries and international organizations around the world not to recognize this illegal annexation," the leaders' statement reads.
The statement underlines that the EU will reinforce measures to curb Russia’s illegal actions and increase pressure on Russia to end the war. EU leaders also note that they will continue to support Ukraine militarily, economically, politically, socially, and financially in its fight against the aggressor Russia.
