Since the start of the aggression, which fuelled a devastating humanitarian crisis, ICRC has significantly increased its response efforts on the ground. It provides lifesaving assistance to people in hard to reach areas and internally displaced persons, medicines and supplies to health care facilities and assists in restoring damaged critical infrastructure.
ICRC is an independent and neutral organisation, established in 1863 and based in Geneva. Its mandate stems from the Geneva Conventions of 1949 and relates to ensuring compliance with the international humanitarian law and providing humanitarian protection and assistance for victims of armed conflicts. ICRC is an important part of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement that consists of ICRC, National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).
