The two leaders discussed Russia’s continuing military aggression and Lithuania’s assistance to Ukraine in its struggle.
The President of Lithuania stressed the need to continue to actively expand and tighten sanctions against Russia, as well as to enhance their impact on the aggressor’s economy, financial sector, and the military capabilities. Gitanas Nausėda underlined that the instruments of pressure must be of maximum effectiveness, and that it is therefore necessary to eliminate all the exceptions remaining in the EU sanction packages adopted so far.
“Lithuania will continue to support Ukraine with military, humanitarian, financial, and expert assistance. We will continue to pool international efforts to maintain the pressure on Russia in order to minimize its capabilities to wage war in Ukraine. We will be your voice in Europe to ensure Ukraine’s early EU membership. We will do our utmost to bring individuals responsible for Russia’s crimes in Ukraine to justice. We will not grow tired, and we will not let others grow tired either. We will stand together with Ukraine until victory,” the President said.
Gitanas Nausėda informed President Zelenskyy that Lithuania would provide Ukraine with additional armored personnel carriers and a package of ammunition for combat training. Lithuania-made anti-drones will be supplied in the near future as well.
