At the meeting, the Lithuanian leader underlined that bilateral cooperation between Lithuania and Oman has expanded over the past 30 years and expressed hope that it will continue developing to cover a variety of other sectors. The President invited the Omani Minister of Foreign Affairs to establish an embassy in Vilnius, which would serve to promote bilateral relations.
According to Gitanas Nausėda, Lithuania is particularly interested in building up economic contacts with Oman. Cooperation in IT, life sciences, solar energy, liquefied gas, and financial technologies has the greatest potential, the President said.
Gitanas Nausėda pointed out that the current geopolitical situation made it necessary for Europe to rapidly reduce its dependence on Russian energy resources. The President stressed that Europe was interested in increasing energy imports from the Gulf states and was actively exploring opportunities to expand energy cooperation with the Persian Gulf region.
Badr Albusaidi was awarded the Cross of Commander of the Order for Merits to Lithuania for the promotion of bilateral relations between Lithuania and Oman.
