“I was deeply shocked and saddened to learn about the passing of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. On behalf of the people of Lithuania and on my own behalf, I extend profound condolences to you, the Government of Japan, Mr. Shinzo Abe's family and loved ones, and all the people of Japan over this immense loss,” the President wrote in his message of condolences.
Gitanas Nausėda underlined that Shinzo Abe was an outstanding politician and a great leader who left a significant imprint on the history of relations between Japan and Lithuania.
“In 2019, during my visit to Japan, I had the opportunity to meet the former Prime Minister, and I see this meeting as a significant step in expanding the relationship between Lithuania and Japan,” the President noted.
Gitanas Nausėda emphasized that the Lithuanian people will remember Shinzo Abe as a true friend who made an important personal contribution to the successful development of relations between Lithuania and Japan.
The President wished Japan unity and consolidation in this moment of grief.
