President Gitanas Nausėda emphasized that Lithuania would continue to support Ukraine in all possible ways and would urge its partners in the West not to yield to the fatigue of the war and to continue to actively support the Ukrainian people in their struggle for freedom and the sovereignty of their country. Gitanas Nausėda expressed his support to Ukrainians on behalf of the Lithuanian people and wished them strength, underlining that Lithuania will stand together with Ukraine until victory.
“Lithuania and all of our people are with you, and we will stand together until victory. We share your pain and respect your dedication to fight for freedom. We will do our utmost to ensure that Ukraine receives the help it needs to win this war. The future of free Ukraine is in Europe. I believe that no one doubts that,” the President said.
The President underscored that Lithuania strongly supported Ukraine’s aspirations to become a member of the EU and assured President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that he would make every political effort to initiate the process as soon as possible. Gitanas Nausėda pointed out that this week’s European Council meeting in Brussels, which would decide on granting EU candidate status to Ukraine, was a historic opportunity for Europe to make it clear that Ukraine’s future was with the EU. According to the President, the European Commission’s recommendation to grant the candidate status to Ukraine has paved the way for a positive discussion at the European Council.
The Presidents of Lithuania and Ukraine also discussed possible export routes for Ukrainian grain through the EU territory and its ports.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked First Lady Diana Nausėdienė and the people of Lithuania for the initiative to open the Ukrainian Center in Vilnius and stressed that this was an important sign of support for Ukrainians.
