During the meeting with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, the President congratulated Georgia on completing the second questionnaire of the European Commission within a short time thus taking another step towards closer integration with the European Union.
“Lithuania supports Georgia’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration and is deeply concerned by Russia’s attempts to prevent Georgia and other sovereign states from making independent decisions on the course of their foreign policy,” the President stressed.
During the meeting with OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann, President Gitanas Nausėda thanked the organization for its firm decision to remove Russia and Belarus from all OECD institutions.
“Today we need to talk not only about Russia’s aggression in Ukraine and the civilized world’s response, but also to plan for Ukraine’s reconstruction to help put the country back on track for development. The fact that the OECD supported Lithuania’s and Poland’s initiative to establish the organization’s office for Ukraine is very important for the future of this country. The OECD will play an important role in helping to rebuild Ukraine and its economy,” Gitanas Nausėda said.
The President also called upon the OECD Secretary-General to consider the possibility of relocating the office for Ukraine from Paris to Kiev in the near future. Gitanas Nausėda stressed that this would be an important moral support for a country fighting Russian aggression.
