Landsbergis thanked Norway for its strong solidarity with the allies in strengthening NATO’s eastern flank. In response to Russia's military invasion of Ukraine, Norway sent additional soldiers to complement the troops, serving with NATO's enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group in Rukla.
The Foreign Ministers agreed that there was a need to continue providing assistance to Ukraine, including military support, in the context of Russia’s military aggression. Landsbergis shared his impressions from this week's meeting with the Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba and informed his Norwegian counterpart about the assistance that Ukraine needed the most right now.
Landsbergis also thanked Norway for its solidarity with the European Union in imposing sanctions on Russia and Belarus. The Foreign Ministers highlighted the need to coordinate the international community's actions as closely as possible, further increasing pressure on Russia, extending and tightening the existing sanctions, as well as ensuring that the sanctions do not contain loopholes that could allow to bypass them.
