Impact of Russian invasion
MEPs sitting on the foreign affairs committee, the security and defence subcommittee and the EU-Ukraine delegation will discuss the Russian invasion with Ukraine’s defence minister Oleksii Reznikov on Thursday.
Other committees will also look at the consequences of the invasion on the transatlantic cooperation, transport, fisheries, culture, foreign interference, children rights, human rights and online propaganda.
Gender equality
The women's rights and legal affairs committees will debate on Tuesday on starting talks with EU governments to increase the representation of women on corporate boards of publically listed companies to at least 40%. They will vote on the proposals the following day.
On Thursday, the women's rights and the employment and social affairs committees will set out their position on proposals to strengthen the principle of equal pay for equal work between men and women through pay transparency and enforcement mechanisms.
Economy
On Monday, the economic affairs committee will vote on plans to regulate the use of cryptocurrencies, to include assets outside the EU, support innovation and mitigate risks and reduce the ecological footprint.
The impact of the Covid-19 crisis on EU economies and the recovery will be the focus of the European Parliamentary week 2022 on Tuesday and Wednesday, which brings together MEPs and their counterparts from EU, candidate and observer countries.
The environment and economic affairs committees will consider the European Commission’s proposal to include natural gas and nuclear under taxonomy legislation, which allows investments to be channelled into environmentally sustainable projects. The European Parliament has four months to decide whether to veto the proposal.
Parliament is co-hosting a conference with the Commission on Tuesday on the right to disconnect. Following Parliament’s resolution, the event will look at the trends and evolution of telework and the opportunities and challenges it poses.
