The meeting between the Presidents of Lithuania and Germany focused on cooperation between the countries in the fields of security, defense and economy.
Gitanas Nausėda emphasized that Lithuania valued Germany as a reliable strategic partner and thanked for Germany’s contribution to the collective security of NATO’s eastern flank. According to the President, in the face of Russia’s military build-up in Belarus and on the border with Ukraine, Germany’s decision to deploy more troops to Lithuania sends a clear message of unity and solidarity on behalf of NATO as a whole.
“Lithuania is ready to host more allied forces and provide all the necessary infrastructure and support in our territory. Increasing allied forces in our region is a key deterrent,” the President said.
On the eve of the Lithuanian President’s visit, it was announced that Germany was increasing its contingent of troops in the NATO eFP Battle Group in Lithuania.
