The Lithuanian and French leaders discussed security tensions on NATO’s eastern flank, the amassment of Russian troops on the border with Ukraine and in Belarus. Gitanas Nausėda emphasized that Russia’s military build-up in Belarus was of particular concern and underlined that allied unity and resolve to act was a key factor in deterring Russia.
“Both united rhetoric and action – the increase of allied forces in Lithuania and the Baltic States – would send the right message to Russia that we stand together and strong,” the President said.
Gitanas Nausėda also underscored the need to maintain solidarity with Ukraine and to provide it with all possible assistance.
