The President congratulated the Ambassador of Japan on taking up his new post and discussed the upcoming centenary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, which we will celebrate in 2022. During the meeting, the President emphasized that Japan was Lithuania’s important partner in Asia, with which we had an excellent relationship and shared a common approach to issues of mutual and global importance. The President invited Japan to build a strategic partnership and develop bilateral relations in all areas, in particular to promote cooperation in energy, Fintech, high-tech, and life sciences sectors. The importance of cooperation between the countries in the United Nations and other multilateral fora was also discussed at the meeting. The President noted that transatlantic communities and increasingly closer cooperation with like-minded countries in the Indo-Pacific region were essential today in defending democratic values and the international order as well as in tackling global challenges such as climate change and the COVID-19 pandemic. Lithuania highly values Japan’s partnership with NATO in the face of emerging threats and sees potential for strengthening it.
During the meeting with Ambassador Sahal bin Moustafa of Saudi Arabia, residing in Copenhagen, the President assured that Lithuania looked forward to strengthening economic and trade cooperation with Saudi Arabia. This country is a partner in the Gulf region and both countries would benefit from regular bilateral contacts and cooperation in tackling global challenges such as migration and pandemics.
During his meeting with the Ambassador of Angola, residing in Poland, the President invited Angola to encourage mutual cooperation within the framework of the European Union and the African Union. Gitanas Nausėda also said that he saw potential for cooperation in the field of university studies. At the meeting, the President noted that Lithuania could share good practices in the fight against climate change, on the reduction of fossil fuel dependence and on the development of renewable energy sources.
