In his conversation with the Ukrainian leader, the President stressed that today we were facing an extremely difficult situation on the EU-Belarus border. Thousands of people who flew from the Middle East and Africa are arriving in caravans to storm the EU border. According to Gitanas Nausėda, multiple videos, photo recordings and other evidence demonstrate the involvement of armed Belarusian officials in controlling the flow of people arriving in Belarus and diverting them to the selected sections of the borders of Poland, Lithuania and Latvia.
“A growing threat on the border with Belarus is not just a problem for Poland or Lithuania – it is a concern for the whole European Union and a security issue for the entire region,” the Lithuanian President said.
The Presidents also discussed the Russian Federation’s military movement at the eastern border of Ukraine. The Lithuanian and Ukrainian leaders agreed that the deteriorating situation on the border required urgent solutions and action at the European and international level; therefore, it was necessary, when coordinating actions, to exert pressure on EU institutions and the international community. The President thanked the Ukrainian leader for support and assistance offered in countering the hybrid attack by the Belarusian regime.
The Presidents also discussed the situation of imprisoned former President Mikheil Saakashvili of Georgia, which is of humanitarian concern.
