The Lithuanian Government made its decision to establish a new diplomatic representation in the Indo-Pacific region on 7 June 2021. The official opening of the Embassy in Seoul is scheduled for the end of this year.
Lithuania opened the Embassy in South Korea in order to strengthen its position in the international arena, as well as political and diplomatic relations with our partners in the Asia-Pacific region, to consolidate security and well-being of Lithuanian citizens and to open up new opportunities for Lithuanian exporters in the world's most advanced markets. The strengthening of Lithuania’s diplomatic representation in the region is also driven by the need to diversify markets, to expand cooperation with our partners in the region that share common values, and to contribute to the development and implementation of the European Union's common policy in the region. Relations with South Korea are a priority of Lithuania’s foreign policy, enshrined in the 18th Government's programme.
Lithuania and South Korea established their diplomatic relations on 14 October 1991. Lithuania has been represented in South Korea through its Embassy in the People’s Republic of China, which is also accredited to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Mongolia, the Kingdom of Thailand, and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. The Republic of Korea in Lithuania is currently represented from Poland.
