During the conversation with President Salih of Iraq, President Nausėda highlighted that the majority of people crossing the Lithuania-Belarus border were from Iraq and these people were used by the Lukashenko regime as a tool of political manipulation.
President Gitanas Nausėda urged President Barham Salih to speed up the process of returning the citizens of Iraq from Lithuania back to Iraq and thanked the Iraqi Government for the decisions already taken to address this problem – the suspension the regular flights from Iraq to Belarus and the organization of repatriation flights.
In the conversation with President Erdogan of Turkey, President Nausėda underscored that the sharp increase in irregular migration flows on our country’s borders was a hybrid attack used by Belarus as a geopolitical weapon against the entire EU, and that the rise of disinformation and fake news, spread by the Belarus regime, showed that new provocations could be expected in the future.
President Nausėda asked President Erdogan to use his influence in the region and to warn other countries not to trust promises of easy access to the European Union and not to get involved in illegal migration schemes, organised by criminal structures.
Gitanas Nausėda expressed his belief that a concerted engagement with EU and NATO allies would help curb disinformation and prevent the activities of criminal human trafficking networks as well as threats posed by them.
