Pranckevičius, together with representatives of the Ukrainian Government, the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine and civil society, highlighted the importance of the EU-Ukraine cooperation for Ukraine’s reform process and of the involvement of our eastern partners into the implementation of the EU's priorities (A European Green Deal, the Digital Transformation, etc.). Lithuania's Foreign Vice-Minister also underlined the important role of Ukraine's civil society in building a democratic state with a strong economy.
“The chief architect of European unity Jean Monnet once wrote: “Nothing is possible without men, but nothing is lasting without institutions." Thus, civil society in Ukraine should remain a strong guardian of democracy, human rights and the rule of law, and should not be afraid to tell its Government the uncomfortable truth. Lithuania and the European Union are still ready to help Ukraine strengthen its legal system, fight corruption, increase the transparency of and trust in the civil service," said Pranckevičius.
The discussion was held in the run-up to the 4th Ukraine Reform Conference in Vilnius on 7-8 July.
