The President of Lithuania pointed out to the President of Turkey the changing geopolitical situation in the Eastern Flank of the Alliance, the unpredictability of the Russian and Belarusian regimes, and additional threats to security of the Euro-Atlantic space. Russia is active in the Baltic Sea as well as in the Black Sea regions; therefore, coordination between the allies is necessary.
“In 2019, the agreement reached with Turkey predetermined the renewal of NATO‘s defense plans for the Baltic states and Poland. This was an important step that ensured the security not only of the Baltic Sea region but that of the entire Alliance as well. Now we have to make another step and react to the swiftly changing situation in the NATO‘s Eastern Flank. Lithuania supports the enhancement of NATO’s deterrence and defense measures,” the President said.
President Nausėda presented to the leader of Turkey the threat of Belarus-Russia military integration. Gitanas Nausėda underscored that NATO had to remain vigilant and prepared to react to a variety of scenarios.
