The President expressed his contentment with consistently strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries. This year marks the thirtieth anniversary of the restoration of diplomatic relations and the next year marks the centenary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Lithuania and Italy.
“Dialogue in international organizations based on shared values and views is more important than ever. Working together at the European Union level, we need to be united and demonstrate solidarity on issues of pan-European interest, such as the fight against the pandemic, illegal migration, security challenges in the EU’s neighborhood and around the world. In particular, I appreciate Italy’s solidarity expressed at the European Council in taking firm decisions regarding the actions of the Belarusian regime in the hijacking of a civilian aircraft, “ the President wrote in his message of congratulations.
President Gitanas Nausėda underscored Lithuania’s appreciation of Italy’s input contributing to the implementation of defense and deterrence policy by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization – the participation of Italian troops in the NATO air policing missions, sending troops to military exercises in Lithuania as well as their deployment in the enhanced forward presence battalions in the Baltic States.
President Gitanas Nausėda wished President Sergio Mattarella and all people of Italy continued unity, health and success.
