Monday evening session will be dedicated to the EU’s relations with Russia and the United Kingdom, the situation in the Middle East and the EU-USA summit to be held this coming June.
The President also intends to raise the issue of deteriorating human rights and freedoms in Belarus.
Gitanas Nausėda will inform EU leaders about an unprecedent event: the forced landing in Minsk of a passenger plane flying to Vilnius, which was organized by the Belarus regime on Sunday to arrest Belarusian opposition leader Roman Protasevich. The President will call on European leaders to take immediate action to protect international civil aviation safety and prevent similar incidents from happening again.
The discussion on May 25, Tuesday, will focus on the pressing issues of the pandemic and climate change. The President will highlight Lithuania’s position regarding the unsafe nuclear power plant in Ostrovets. He will call on the European Commission to prepare an assessment of measures to be introduced in order to prevent the inflow of electricity from unsafe power stations to the EU’s internal market.
