“Lithuania maintains the position that strong transatlantic relations are necessary and indispensable for the security and prosperity of both the United States and the European Union. The U.S. standpoint on Russia’s activities directed against Western democracies is based on principles - and that is a good sign for Lithuania. Lithuania and the U.S. are like-minded in their approach to the threats posed by Russia; they are in full agreement and support each other," the President said.
Gitanas Nausėda underlined the strong position of the United States towards Russia. The President expressed his appreciation of America’s principled stand on expanding sanctions against Russia in response to the poisoning of Alexei Navalny, his unlawful trial and imprisonment. “I am convinced that Europe and the United States can do more together to defend democracy and human rights as well as to promote reforms in the EU’s eastern neighborhood,” the President said.
Gitanas Nausėda welcomed the commitment of the United States to a broad transatlantic agenda, including climate change, fighting the pandemic, and strengthening trade and economic relations.
