The President and the Ethiopian Ambassador discussed the potential for developing relations between Lithuania and Ethiopia as well as the impact and management of the COVID-19 pandemic. The President encouraged to promote the cooperation in the fields of education and student exchange and make use of the well-developed Lithuanian medical and technical science. Possibilities for strengthening of political dialogue by signing a bilateral agreement on economic cooperation and a memorandum of political consultations were also discussed during the remote meeting.
President Nausėda highlighted the importance of cooperation between the European Union and Africa in strengthening bilateral relations and underlined that Lithuania was prepared to share experience in implementing reforms.
In the conversation with the Ambassador of Algeria, the President stressed the potential for developing bilateral economic relations and business-to-business contacts which would be facilitated by the signing of bilateral agreements on promotion and protection of investment, economic cooperation, avoidance of double taxation and other areas. The EU-Algeria relations were also discussed during the video conference, Algeria is a key EU partner with a special role in ensuring security and stability in the whole region.
The President pointed out the great potential for bilateral trade relations in the agri-food, life sciences and FinTech sectors. President Nausėda invited to strengthen ties in education and Algerian students to come to study in Lithuania.
At the online meeting with the Ambassador of Zambia, the President emphasized Africa’s growing role in relations with the European Union, the EU’s solidarity with Africa, and in particular Zambia, in the fight against the COVID-19, and called for greater involvement in drafting of the EU strategy for Africa. Zambia is a long-term partner of the EU and ensures stability in the region by hosting refugees.
In their conversation, the President and the Zambian Ambassador discussed the fight against the pandemic and the promotion of bilateral economic cooperation, in sectors such as agriculture and the food industry, information technology and cyber security. According to the President, bilateral academic and cultural exchange as well as tourism could help to enhance people-to-people contacts between Lithuania and Zambia.
