The Presidents touched upon the outcome of the Normandy Format talks and the progress of conflict settlement in Donbass. The President expressed Lithuania’s firm support for Ukraine’s efforts to ensure territorial integrity and sovereignty in the territory of Ukraine.
The President welcomed Zelensky’s initiative to establish a multilateral platform to address the issue of non-recognition of the annexation of Crimea at the international level and prevent further human rights violations on the peninsula.
President Nausėda noted Ukraine’s ever-strengthening cooperation with NATO and reiterated that Lithuania supported Ukraine on the path to Euro-Atlantic integration.
The two leaders discussed tense situation in neighboring Belarus and agreed to unanimously support Belarusian civil society in their fight for democratic values and human rights. “We see no improvement of the current situation. Therefore, extending the EU sanctions against the Belarusian regime is highly important. We welcome Ukraine’s decision to join the EU’s sanctions against the Belarusian regime”, the President said. President Nausėda briefed President Zelensky on conversation he had with leader of the Belarusian civil society Sviatlana Tsichanouskaya on November 24. The President emphasized that Lithuania expected continued solidarity of Ukraine in refusing to purchase electricity from the Ostravets NPP that did not meet the requirements of environmental and nuclear safety.
The President had plans to visit Ukraine this year, but the visit had to be postponed due to pandemic restrictions. The leaders agreed to hold the Ukraine Reform Conference in Vilnius, in July 2021.
