Negotiating positions of the member states on the multiannual financial framework and the funding of the European Recovery Fund were also addressed. The leaders agreed to seek convergence of direct payments to farmers, increased funding for the cohesion policy and the implementation of the Rail Baltica project. Both leaders pointed out the importance of securing more funds for military mobility.
The President and the Prime Minister discussed nuclear safety in the region and the implementation progress of the synchronization project of the Baltic power grid with continental Europe. The President thanked Estonia for the support in raising the safety issue of the Ostravets NPP in the EU as well as the support for the initiative to prevent electricity generated by unsafe power plants from entering the EU internal market.
During the conversation, the leaders also agreed to actively cooperate in combating Russia’s attempts to rewrite history, rehabilitate the Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact and secret protocols, thus trying to mislead the Western society and question the foundations of international law.
