During the conversation, the Presidents discussed the Eastern Partnership agenda, reforms and priorities. The President welcomed active implementation of reforms in Armenia and intensified dialogue with the European Union. “Intensifying relations with the European Union open up new prospects. Lithuania and the EU sees the progress of Armenia, supports and encourages to continue down this path boldly,” the President said adding that he upheld visa liberalization decisions currently under discussion in the EU. Lithuania backs democratic reforms and is ready to share its experience with Armenia in the areas of consolidation of legal system, renewable energy and ecology.
The Presidents discussed the dynamics of the spread of the coronavirus, strategies of mitigating the consequences of the virus as well as measures to ease the lockdown.
President Gitanas Nausėda stressed that solidarity and unity among the states was highly important in the face of this unprecedented crisis and welcomed the EU’s initiative to provide support to the Eastern Partnership countries. Additional financial instruments to the third countries to deal with the effects of the pandemic crisis are also expected. Lithuania also donated medical supplies to Armenia.
During the conversation, bilateral economic cooperation between Lithuania and Armenia was discussed. Rising trade volume is a positive trend that should continue and the collaboration in research and technologies as well as culture should be enhanced.
The President reminded this Armenian counterpart of the invitation to visit Lithuania.
