“I am happy with the solidarity the Baltic States have demonstrated in arranging the repatriation of their citizens. We will do our best to make the Baltic region a successful example of returning to sustainable economic growth in the post-crisis environment. We agreed to use all the national and European financial and political instruments to become even stronger after the crisis. We will focus on research, digital and internal markets of the EU and strengthening of all those areas”, said the President.
The President stressed that the spread of coronavirus in Lithuania has stabilized. Testing intensified at the end of March, greater attention was given to interinstitutional cooperation and the plan for elimination economic and social consequences amounting to 5 percent of GDP was approved.
The three Presidents also discussed active cooperation of the Baltic States in ensuring the repatriation process of citizens and the smooth transit of goods.
Regional security was another important issue touched upon during the conversation, the three leaders expressed the need to step up the efforts in fighting disinformation.
The progress of strategic infrastructure projects, including Rail Baltica, LitPol Link gas pipeline and synchronization of the Baltic power grid with that of continental Europe, was addressed.
The Presidents also highlighted the issue of the Ostravets NPP safety and the need to immediately implement the recommendations of the EU stress tests, as well as ensure compliance with other international environmental and nuclear safety requirements. The issue of non-purchase of electricity from unsafe Ostravets NPP as well as other unsafe power plants in third countries was raised.
