During his meeting with the Ambassador of the United States, the President focused on bilateral political and economic relations.
Special emphasis was placed on the importance of developing Lithuania-U.S. cooperation in security and defense, especially in view of newly emerging threats in the Baltic region. The NATO agenda was also discussed, and appreciation expressed for U.S. support to strengthening the defense capabilities of the Baltic States.
The President welcomed U.S. investments in Lithuania and expressed his firm belief that reciprocal efforts would be made to expand them further. The U.S. Embassy and its staff were invited to take an active part in the cultural life of Lithuania, the initiatives launched to mark the Year of the Vilna Gaon and Jewish Heritage, as well as other historical and cultural events held across Lithuania.
The President’s meeting with the Ambassador of Greece focused on bilateral relations and new opportunities to enhance political and economic contacts. It was noted that the dialogue between the two countries was becoming more dynamic and that the scope of tourism was increasing.
Among the other issues discussed was the EU agenda: the multiannual financial framework, the challenges of migration faced by Mediterranean countries, the EU’s development prospects, and the Conference on the Future of Europe. Views were exchanged on collaborative work within NATO, the security situation in the Mediterranean region and concerns about Russia’s growing military threat to the Baltic States. The President and the Greek ambassador reviewed their national commitments to fight climate change and confirmed their readiness to cooperate after Brexit. The President extended an invitation to the newly elected President of Greece, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, to visit Lithuania.
During his meeting with the Ambassador of San Marino, the President underlined that he would like to see the two countries deepen their political and economic ties. Gitanas Nausėda invited policy makers and business people from San Marino to take part in international business conferences hosted by Lithuania and to learn more about the potential for broader economic contacts.
