In several days Franklin met with representatives of Kaunas Film Studio and Kaunas Sugihara Memorial Museum. Film director gathered useful information about Deputy Consul Chiune Sugihara who arrived in 1939 from Helsinki to Kaunas and established a Japanese consulate.
Sugihara together with the Dutch diplomat Jan Zwartendijk issued transit visas to Jews escaping from Nazis thus saving around 10,000 Lithuanian, Polish and German people.
According to Franklin, he arrived to Kaunas seeking to gather as much material for a movie about Sugihara. His first impressions about Kaunas were terrific. He said it is a very sincere and prospering place, perfectly suitable for filming. People whom he met were very accommodating and he was pleased with opportunities to find suitable partners for a movie.
He added that he could not wait to meet with producers back in the US and analyse all the information and material for the future movie. He wishes to film in Kaunas where all historical events took place.
