In the upcoming Council meeting, Lithuania will emphasize Russia's aggression against Ukraine and frozen conflicts, as well as the need for Russia to fully implement the Minsk agreements.
The Lithuanian-Slovak consultations were chaired by the Foreign Vice-Minister Albinas Zananavičius. The officials discussed negotiations on the multiannual financial framework (MFF), climate change, migration, energy, transport, the rule of law, Brexit, EU enlargement, and the Eastern neighborhood. According to them, Lithuania and Slovakia have very similar positions on the EU's long-term budget. Both countries seek sufficient financing for the Common Agricultural Policy and the Cohesion Policy.
Slovakian representatives took particular interest in Lithuania's experience in countering disinformation and hybrid threats. In the meeting, Lithuanian officials also voiced their concern about the implementation of the Ostrovets Nuclear Power Plant project in Belarus and stressed the need to raise the issue concerning the threat posed by the NPP at EU level.
