The meeting will focus on events in Ukraine and the EU's response to the crisis in this country. The Foreign Ministers will also discuss the Israeli-Palestinian negotiations, the European Neighbourhood Policy and the effectiveness of its instruments.
The Lithuanian Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Vytautas Leškevičius will take part in the General Affairs Council meeting to be held in Brussels on 13 May. The meeting will be devoted to the preparation of the European Council on 26-27 June. The European Council is expected to focus on European energy security issues, the area of freedom, security and justice, economic growth, competitiveness, job creation, the EU climate change and energy polices for 2020-2030.
The 10th anniversary of the fifth wave of EU enlargement will be marked after the General Affairs Council meeting. Lithuania Latvia, Estonia, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Malta and Cyprus joined the EU on 1 May 2004.
