According to the President, the role of Finland as a close nation and an important partner of Lithuania is ever growing. Lithuania values intense and friendly dialogue that the countries share on economy, energy and transport infrastructure. Both Lithuania and Finland are involved in intensive regional Nordic-Baltic cooperation (NB8).
During the visit, the Presidents of Lithuania and Finland will discuss bilateral relations and opportunities for strengthening economic relations. Finland is the ninth largest foreign investor in our country. The Presidents will also address issues of regional security, relations with the Eastern Partnership countries, nuclear safety, as well as partnership in NATO and combating hybrid threats.
After the meeting, the Presidents will hold a joint press conference.
At the meeting with the Finnish Prime Minister, the EU agenda will be discussed as Finland holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union this semester. Intense negotiations on a multi-annual EU budget, including funding for regional infrastructure projects, have already started. Mobility package, Brexit as well as climate change are also among the topics on the agenda.
In Helsinki, the President will also lay a wreath on the tomb of Finnish hero Karl Mannerheim.
