“Jacques Chirac was an international politician, a true European who wholeheartedly believed in the idea of united Europe and consistenly guided Europe towards the realization of this idea. As the President of France, he significantly contributed to the development of the European Union as well as NATO, unification of member states and making historical decisions for Europe. The people will remember the President as a highly respected and valued head of state and a loyal patriot of his country”, the President said in the message.
According to the President, Lithuania recalls the visit by Jacques Chirac in 2001 as a friendly encouragement to our country to seek membership of the EU and NATO.
The President offered sincere condolences on behalf of the people of Lithuania to the family and loved ones of Jacques Chirac and all the people of France.
