During the meetings bilateral relations, and positions on shared goals in the EU and NATO as well as defense and security issues, strategic transport infrastructure projects Via Baltica and Rail Baltica and joint energy projects will be discussed.
Before his second foreign visit, the President emphasized the extraordinary unity of the Baltic people, the common history, values and interests that Lithuanian and Latvian people share. According to the President, Lithuania and Latvia share the same approach to challenges and threats and that leads to successful bilateral cooperation when dealing with regional issues and defending the interests of people of the two countries on the international arena.
In Riga, the President will lay flowers at the Freedom Monument and will visit the National Library of Latvia where he will see a collection of rare and valuable books. The President will also donate a book about the history of the Palace of Lithuanian Grand Dukes based in the Lower Castle of Vilnius.
