At the meeting with the Japanese minister of foreign affairs, it was agreed that the international community had to send a clear signal that the aggressive policy carried out by the Russian Federation against Ukraine could not be tolerated.
During the discussion, Kishida highlighted the increased Lithuania's prestige among the international community following the successful Lithuania's Presidency of the EU Council and Lithuania's nomination as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.
The Japanese minister expressed wish of a more active cooperation on the issues of the UN agenda. The Lithuanian minister invited his Japanese counterpart to come for a visit to Lithuania and to continue a constructive dialogue.
On his visit to Japan, Linkevicius also met with Japan's Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Toshimitsu Motegi, Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Hakubun Shimomura, Senior Vice-Minister at the Cabinet Office of Japan Yasutoshi Nishimura.
The Japanese party assured the Lithuanian minister of the Government's support to the Visaginas Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) project and offered assistance in preparing nuclear energy specialists.
On the same day, Linkevicius opened the Lithuanian Chamber of Commerce in Japan and an exhibition of Lithuanian products in the Lithuanian embassy.
