In the meeting, Z. Ujevič presented Croatia's preparations to hold the Presidency of the Council of the EU. She also took interest in Lithuania’s experience of holding the Presidency of the EU Council in the second half of 2013.
One of the key priorities of the Croatian Presidency will be the integration of the Western Balkan countries with the EU. The EU-Western Balkans summit is scheduled for May 2020. The Foreign Vice-Minister A. Zananavičius called on the Croatian Presidency not to forget also the Eastern Partnership.
The Croatian delegation also met with Directors and representatives of Departments of the European Union, European Countries, the United Nations and International Organizations, and the Eastern Partnership Policy. The meetings focused on bilateral relations, opportunities for cooperation on international elections, Lithuania’s relationships with its neighboring countries – Poland, Latvia, Belarus, Russia, and Ukraine – as well as future enlargement of the EU. Members of the Croatian delegation also informed the Foreign Vice-Minister about current events and relevant issues impacting the Western Balkan countries in detail.
Croatia will hold the Presidency of the Council of the European Union for the first time from January to June 2020 after Finland and before Germany.
