Lithuania welcomes the ratification by Greece's parliament of the historic agreement between Greece and Macedonia that changes the name of Macedonia. The country will now be called the Republic of Northern Macedonia. This sets an example of reconciliation between different nations and will bring a decades-old dispute close to an end.
Macedonia is the first Western Balkan country to sign the Stabilization and Association Agreement with the European Union in 2001. It has also been a candidate for accession to the European Union since 2005. After the signing of the Prespa Agreement of 17 June 2018, NATO invited Macedonia to become its member state.
