In the meeting, the Foreign Ministers agreed to organize a meeting of the Joint Economic Commission in Lithuania in 2019. The meeting will identify new areas for cooperation, facilitate the establishment of direct contacts between responsible institutions and business structures. Minister L. Linkevičius presented Lithuania's reform experience, achievements in the fields of IT and biotechnology, the experience of Lithuanian companies in implementing Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and cyber security technologies in Africa.
The Egyptian Foreign Minister assessed highly Lithuania's achievements and expressed interest in taking over the country’s reform experience. L. Linkevičius invited Egyptian representatives to participate in the events of the annual Arab Culture Days in Lithuania and presented them with the first Lithuanian-Arabic conversation dictionary published in Lithuania in 2018.
The Foreign Ministers also discussed political and security situations in the Middle East and North Africa region, and in Europe.
The meeting with the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives of Egypt Karim Darwish and members of the Committee also discussed the development of parliamentary cooperation.
Lithuania and Egypt established their diplomatic relations in 1992. The Embassy of Lithuania has been operating in Cairo since 2001. In 2016, Arvydas Daunoravičius was appointed as the Ambassador of Lithuania to Egypt.
