According to the Head of Government, Georgia is deservedly called the leader of the Eastern Partnership, while the objective for all of us is to help Georgia maintain this role and retain its leadership. The Prime Minister has encouraged the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia to implement all the reforms required for the European and Euro-Atlantic integration and has expressed Lithuania’s support for Georgia’s territorial integrity.
‘We are good friends and strategic partners. I am delighted at our excellent political contacts, yet at the same time I am looking forward to strengthening the practical and pragmatic cooperation in the fields of economy, business and innovation. There is considerable potential indeed’, said Prime Minister Skvernelis.
Presidential elections will be held in Georgia this coming Sunday. It has been stressed that there are high expectations about the elections and that it is important to hold the genuinely open and fair democratic elections.
It has been emphasized that Lithuania had become the first country who had officially started using the country’s name Sakartvelo, while Georgia started using the name Lietuva (instead of Litva). It is an important and meaningful gesture. Communication between the two states will be further improved by the launch of the direct twice weekly flights operated by the Georgian Airways from Vilnius to Tbilisi as of April 2019. On 22 October, already the 6th Lithuania-led Twinning project was launched in Georgia to help improve its public service.
Skvernelis has invited the Prime Minister of Georgia to pay a visit to Lithuania.
This is Zalkaliani’s first visit to Lithuania following his appointment as Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia in June this year.
