Lithuania’s Foreign Vice-Minister stressed that cooperation with Iceland and other Nordic and Baltic countries was one of the most important priorities of Lithuania.
“When dealing with the current geopolitical challenges in the region, we must continue to strengthen our close bilateral and regional cooperation, such as the Nordic-Baltic Eight (NB8), especially when seeking solidarity solutions for regional and energy security, cyber and hybrid threats, strategic communication, resilience to propaganda, and issues related to Eastern Partnership. It is important to strengthen solidarity in these areas and a more robust EU-NATO partnership, as well as to develop transatlantic cooperation,” said the Vice-Minister Germanas.
According to Lithuania’s Foreign Vice-Minister, Lithuania and Iceland would always enjoy a special relationship, as this country had demonstrated solidarity, courage and determination, and was the first to recognize Lithuania’s independence.
After the meetings at the Foreign Ministry, Iceland’s Ambassador Árni Þór Sigurðsson will present his letters of credence to the President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė. The Ambassador resides in Helsinki, Finland. He is accredited to Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and Ukraine.
