Today’s meeting at the Foreign Ministry was also attended by the Chair of the Jewish Community of Lithuania Faina Kukliansky. The meeting discussed transatlantic relations, the European Union’s policy in the Middle East, relations between Lithuania and the state of Israel, as well as plans to mark the centenary anniversary of the restoration of the state of Lithuania together with national communities around the world.
Lithuania’s Foreign Minister also emphasized that Lithuania highly appreciated the activities of the AJC and its support for the democratic development of Lithuania. Lithuania’s Foreign Ministry and diplomatic representations maintain regular contacts with the U.S.A. and world Jewish organizations.
The AJC actively supports democratic changes in Eastern and Central Europe. This is the first Jewish organization to speak in favour of the recognition of Lithuania’s independence and the development of NATO. On 13 January this year, the AJC reminded the world again that even though Lithuania had paid a high price of human life and health, it had paved the way for freedom and destroyed the Soviet Union.
In order to maintain a more intensive relationship with the Governments of the Baltic and Visegrád countries, and Jewish communities there, the AJC opened its Central Europe Office in Warsaw in 2017.
