In the meeting with the President of Madagascar Hery Rajaonarimampianina and the Foreign Minister Henry Rabary Njaka, Linkevičius discussed perspectives of developing bilateral relations, further cooperation in multilateral formats, as well as regional and global issues. Linkevičius also presented the growing involvement of our country in Africa.
Madagascar became the 183rd country with which Lithuania has established diplomatic relations. Currently, the United Nations has 193 member states.
On 28 November, Linkevičius also met with was the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia Workneh Gebeyehu. The meeting focused on the strengthening bilateral political and economic cooperation.
The two Foreign Ministers agreed to conclude negotiating agreements on political consultations and economic cooperation in the short run. Linkevičius highlighted the importance of bilateral contacts in strengthening cooperation between the European Union and the African Union. In addition, Linkevičius invited Gebeyehu to pay an official visit to Lithuania.
Linkevičius held these meetings on the margins of the fifth African Union - European Union (AU-EU) summit in Abidjan. The AU-EU summits are held every three years. The next summit will take place in 2020, in one of the capitals of the European Union.
