The meeting was held on the British Prime Minister’s initiative. The course of Brexit negotiation between the EU and the U.K. was discussed.
The President underscored that, in the negotiations, the main priority for Lithuania was to preserve the rights of the Lithuanian citizens residing in the U.K. When the United Kingdom leaves the EU, Lithuanians must enjoy the same rights as they are enjoying now.
According to the President, an active role of the United Kingdom in ensuring Europe‘s security and comprehensive trade after Brexit is also in Lithuania’s interests.
At the meeting, Dalia Grybauskaitė underscored that the United Kingdom had to fulfill the undertaken financial obligations.
