Over 23 per cent of people in Europe are exposed to risk of poverty and social exclusion, thus European efforts are mobilized to fight against it. In Gothenburg, a declaration on enhancing social rights will be signed. It will help securing more funding for social needs in the new multiannual budget of the EU.
In Sweden, the EU heads of state or government will also discuss education and measures to enhance EU’s policy on culture, particularly in fighting against anti-European propaganda. Dalia Grybauskaitė will present Lithuania’s experience in stopping fake news as well as civic initiatives undertaken by the national media for protecting our information space and increasing people’s resilience against lie.
The EU leaders will also tackle the issue of increased funding for Erasmus student exchange programme and a possible inclusion of teacher exchanges. As of 1999, over 40 thousand Lithuanian students and 16 thousand academics benefitted from Erasmus programme.
