At the meeting at Buckingham Palace Ambassador Norkus expressed his gratitude to the Queen for the UK’s policy of non-recognition of Lithuania’s soviet annexation between 1940-1990, allowing Lithuania to retain its diplomatic representation in London.
The diplomat also noted that today Lithuania and the UK are close allies that enjoy fruitful bilateral cooperation in political, security, trade and cultural fields. He also emphasized the importance of the UK cooperation with the Nordic-Baltic countries. He went on to inform Her Majesty about the upcoming festivities to celebrate the centenary of the restored Lithuanian state which will be held by the Embassy and the UK’s Lithuanian community in 2018.
