What can and should the EU do to help with the impact of the typhoon?
The European Commission has already confirmed the EU will help. The EU can send professionals to help with emergency help and send supplies such as medicine and food. It can also make money available to the Philippine government to help them. But the reconstruction will be more difficult.
How difficult will it be?
The Philippines is a country with significant problems. Until recently there were earthquakes, we have had floods, and this was the 25th major storm this year.
It will be difficult as it is a densely populated country and it has significant infrastructure problems because of the islands. We will help, but I think it will be a long process comparable to Haiti.
