Klaus Schwab has been at the center of global economic and business thought for the last several decades. He has personally invited President Dalia Grybaskaitė to the Davos forum at the beginning of 2018. It will be the third visit by the President of Lithuania to Davos, which each year gathers the world’s most influential political figures, business people and opinion makers.
According to Dalia Grybauskaitė, the fact that the founder of the World Economic Forum is in Lithuania is the best possible evidence of Lithuania’s success in establishing itself on the global arena as a vibrant, innovative and reliable economy. Among its achievements is ultra-high-speed fiber optic internet, laser solutions that account for 10 percent of the entire global scientific laser market, and 30th position in the Ease of Doing Business report. With its strategic location and multilingual IT talent, Lithuania offers one of the most attractive startup ecosystems. The world also highly values Lithuania’s experience in gaining energy independence. We consult such countries as Croatia, Indonesia, Columbia, Uruguay, Brazil, Malta, and the Republic of South Africa on the construction of LNG terminals.
The President underlined that collaborative work between the World Economic Forum and Lithuanian business representatives was very important for our country.
Each year, the World Economic Forum assesses the competitiveness landscape of global economies. Therefore, the meeting focused those fields of special interest for Lithuania to further improve its competitiveness worldwide, including better quality education, development of innovation, efforts to maintain and attract a talented workforce.
Among the other issues discussed were cyber threats. Klaus Schwab expanded on his idea to set up a cyber security center in Geneva. According to the President, concrete results have been achieved in our country to ensure cyber security: Lithuania has launched a national cyber security center, cyber defense plans are in place and cyber security exercises are conducted on a regular basis. Lithuania’s experience in this field will be useful to Klaus Schwab as he works to realize his project.
Each year, the World Economic Forum brings together prominent political and corporate leaders, public opinion makers and global business representatives where they come up with new ideas, establish contacts and discuss issues important to the world. Three thousand world leaders are expected to gather in Davos next year.
In Vilnius, Klaus Schwab will make a presentation at the Annual Economic Forum and will also present his book "The Fourth Industrial Revolution” translated into Lithuanian.
