The meeting discussed bilateral relations and cooperation in the field of security policy. The President of Germany Steinmeier warmly remembered his last week’s visit to Lithuania and welcomed close ties between the two countries.
The Ambassador Semaška noted that Lithuania’s especially good bilateral relationship with Germany opened up perspectives for further cooperation. The Ambassador thanked Germany for its contribution to strengthening Lithuania’s security. “Nearly one hundred years ago, when Lithuania was re-established as an independent state, German soldiers helped to counter the attack of the Red Army. Today, Germany has taken the lead of the NATO enhanced forward presence battalion in Lithuania,” said Lithuania’s Ambassador.
Semaška also asked Germany for help to prevent threats posed by the Ostrovets nuclear power plant.
