Eggs
Millions of eggs have been pulled from supermarket shelves in more than a dozen European countries after it came to light that some had been contaminated with the potentially harmful insecticide fipronil. Members of Parliament’s agriculture committee address the consequences for the food chain on Thursday.
Earthquakes
On Wednesday, the budgets committee is expected to approve €1.2 billion from the EU Solidarity Fund to aid the recovery following a number of recent earthquakes in central Italy. It would be the highest single sum allocated from the fund to date. The same committee is also set to vote on an additional €500 million to counter youth unemployment.
Carcinogens
Before the summer, Parliament reached a provisional agreement with the Council on a new directive intended to help protect workers from exposure to carcinogens or mutagens in the workplace. The employment committee votes on the deal on Wednesday.
Replacement diets
New rules on the composition and labelling of diet replacements are put to a vote in the public health committee on Thursday.
