Dalia Grybauskaitė underlined that the visit of the President of Turkey to Lithuania had contributed to strengthening bilateral political and economic cooperation.
"I am delighted that the issues of Turkey's integration into the European Union which we discussed are moving forward and that negotiations on the new 22 chapter will start this early November, at a time when Lithuania holds the EU Council Presidency. I strongly hope that it will constitute a new important step towards further collaboration between the European Union and Turkey," the President wrote in her message of congratulations.
Dalia Grybauskaitė also pointed out that Turkey had always been and would continue to be an important partner of Lithuania and the European Union in all aspects of ensuring security, boosting growth and promoting cooperation between societies.
The President wished Abdullah Gül strong health and success in working for the good of his country, as well as long years of security, well-being and prosperity to the whole of Turkey.
